Peren distt. bodies to boycott launch of oil exploration

More Peren district based organizations have resolved to boycott the launching programme of oil exploration by MOGPL in Old Jalukie on September 22.
PVC: Peren Village Council (PVC) has extended support the call by Peren District Petroleum and Natural Gas Bearing Belt Land Owners’ Union (PDPNGBBLOU) for boycotting the launching programme of MOGPL in Old Jalukie on September 22.
PVC chairman Haisobi Hega appealed the state government to pay heed to the voice of the people and said that the “unfortunate incident” in Changpang, Wokha during the oil launching programme was not be repeated at Old Jalukie. The council said it would continue to support PDPNGBBLOU.
ZPON: Zeliang People’s Organisation Nagaland (ZPON) Sunday resolved to back PDPNGBBLOU for boycott of Monday’s launch of oil exploration by MOGPL.
ZPON media cell said that the resolution was made at the executive meeting held on September 21 “in the interest of the landowners in particular and the native Zeliang people of Nagaland to totally boycott launching of oil exploration by MOGPL as being opposed by PDPNGBBLOU”..
JSU: Jalukie Students’ Union Sunday expressed dismay with the agreement signed between Old Jalukie Village Council and MOGPL for oil exploration within the jurisdiction of Jalukie in Peren district.
JSU president Enchang Hiaka said the union was pained to learn that the village council had agreed to sign in a ready-made draft without taking the consent of the village council. JSU said it was not satisfied with the draft modality and the way in which MOGPL had approached the village council. The union said the agreement was made just to take away the landownership right from the village council and to extract mineral ore from the district without any limit for ten years. Such kind of contract cannot be considered a valid contract, said JSU.
Programme to go
as scheduled: PCF
People’s Concerned Forum (PCF), Peren district Sunday said the launch programme of oil and natural gas operation in Peren District in Old Jalukie by chief minister T.R. Zeliang would go ahead as scheduled.
PCF general secretary Mongzeung Mpom stated that , the Peren District Petroleum and Natural Gas Bearing Belt Land Owners Union (PDPNGBBLOU) has also agreed to have a discussion on the same issue at a convenient time based on “the gesture” shown by the chief minister.
LDVC warn groups
Lamhai-Dungki Village Councils (LDVC) has reiterated that the village council was the sole authority over its land and resources and warned that any individual or group attempting to boycott or stop the launching programme of oil exploration within its jurisdiction would be doing so at their own risks.
Lamhai Village Council chairman Haibamko and Dungki Village Council chairman Namgong reminded that the villages signed the agreement for exploration of oil and natural gas with MOGPL as per the NP& NG rules.
The council cautioned that it will not tolerate any individual or group, going against the decision of the village council by organising unauthorised road block or any form of boycott within their jurisdiction and would take action as per law of the land.
