Along with the rest of the world, Nagaland observed “International Day for Older Persons” by honouring the aged, Wednesday.
In Dimapur, District Welfare Office (DWO) Dimapur observed “International Day for Older Person 2014” Wednesday at DWO office complex Dimapur.
During the programme two oldest person of Dimapur, Reverend Yankey Patton, born in 1929 (85 years) and head GB Sukhato, Hotoli, born in 1922 (92 years) were recognized with certificate and a cash amount of Rs 5000 each.
In a simple function, Reverend Yankey Patton expressed gratitude to DWO for honouring them. With tears in his eyes, Patton said the journey till thus far was blessed by God. Meanwhile, 92 year old Hotoli also gave a brief history of her education and her journey of life.
Earlier, the function was compered by CDPO (R ) Dimapur Akali Sema, God’s blessing was invoked by CDPO (Nuiland), Asangla, theme of the year was delivered by DWO Dimapur Tosheli, recognition of distinguished older person by CDPO (U) Nezolu and vote of thanks was delivered by welfare inspector, Shikato. SURUHUTO: “International Day of Older persons” was celebrated at Suruhuto Town Wednesday. The function was organized by the Literary Board Suruhuto Area (LBSA) and was attended by more than 200 persons.
CDPO and coordinator LBSA, Hovishe Wotsa said that LBSA’s gift to elders was bringing them together and highlighted on the policies of the government for the older persons
LBSA Chairman, Hotoshe Sema Awomi deliberated on the activities of the LBSA and appealed to the elders to be a role model for the younger generation by living a good life. On the occasion, children of medical colony presented folk song 19 Special gifts were given to 80+ on behalf of DWO Zunheboto, Atoli Kivukhu and about 120 gifts to 60+ and church leaders by LBSA.
MOKOKCHUNG: “International Day of Older persons” was observed Wednesday at Ompangkong Salang, Mokokchung.
ADC, Mokokchung, Bendanglila while delivering a short speech gave details on the national policies and financial assistance in different sectors such as transport, hospital, financial institutions etc. and also emphasized on health habits and gave pointers on how to live a healthy life.
The programme which was organized by the District Welfare Office, Mokokchung also awarded two senior citizens for their contributions towards the society. Mrs. Kariyangla of Khensa Village and Mr. Khazuhe Sema of Waghutomi Village were awarded cash of Rs. 5000 each along with acknowledgement letter.
Special prayer for the Senior Citizens was said by Pastor, Artang Baptist Church, Bendang Lkr and Welfare Inspector, Imtinukshi proposed the vote of thanks and the programme was chaired by Ms. Chubasangla.
On the occasion, programmes were organized in a number of places to mark the day. In Khar village, a function was held to show concern and love to those older people in 80 plus under the 80 plus Mission project.
TUENSANG: “International Day for Older Persons” programme was observed at the DEF Police Church Tuensang Wednesday organized by (UTELU) united Tribal Elders Union, DEF Tuensang and Social welfare Department. The chief guest of the programme was SDO(C) Tuensang, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon said that the holistic development includes the quality of life for the aged citizens in the State. The responsibility for which is on the youngsters and the government.
Dr. Manazir added that the government has been providing financial security through many schemes and projects and moral support.
KIPHIRE: Department of Social Welfare Kiphire district observed “International Day of Older Persons” at GA Rest house Pungro with ADC Pungro Tainu as the chief guest, Wednesday.
Addressing the function Tainu dwelled on how and why the senior citizens were being honoured and respected by the society. Saluting the older persons, the chief guest encouraged the gathering to regard every aged people as assets for the society. Tainu later gave away an award to one oldest man and a woman. CDPO Pungro N. Ralmo Lotha who chaired the programme delivered a welcome and keynote address while Pastor Pungro Town Baptist Church pronounced the invocation prayer.
Altogether 123 senior citizens from near and around Pungro Town attended the programme. The function was ended with votes of thanks by supervisor Sitimi ICDS Project S.Yesumong. (Correspondent)
LONGLENG: “International Older persons Day” was observed in Longleng at EBRC Hall with SDO (C) Longleng Japheth Woch as chief guest.
Woch, in his speech congratulated all the older persons of different villages who took a long distance journey to join the auspicious day knowing the important of the day and long life being bestowed upon them.
He also encouraged the gathering to be strong and live in dignity and carry out the good guardian for the younger generations.
Woch also urged the students and NGOs to respect the older persons saying that the aged are more like the “setting sun” among us. The programme was chaired by Amongla Chang, invocation prayer was pronounced by Henmei Phom Associate Pastor Longleng Town Baptist Church.
Hundreds of older persons turned up from all the villages including the pensioners of the district.
Welcome address and presentation of gifts to the older persons was brought by Y.Tauhong Phom CDPO Longleng. Others who spoke on the occasion include Longpen Phom President Pensioner’s Association Longleng District, while vote of thanks was said by Nyapong Phom.
