Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF), which also attended the Nagaland consultative meeting on NSDZ, NIB and NLTP held at SIRD, Kohima September 26, asserted there was lot of “fatal flaws” in the resolution that had been proposed for adoption by the house to implement the Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ).
In a press release, NLSF president Lanusowa and general secretary Khemvu said after expressing its views, the government had to postpone the adoption of their “tailor made resolutions on that day.”
Stating that NSDZ could bring benefits to the people if only it was carefully and properly implemented at the right time, NLSF, however, said in its present form and at this present juncture NSDZ was only posing as threat to Naga society, which it described “will drive the Naga generations to the point of extinction.”
It said government should be sincere, honest, and transparent in dealing with such affairs of the state by taking utmost care for the welfare of its citizens before implementing any of its public policies and programmes.
Maintaining that Nagaland was not yet prepared to take up the challenges involved with NSDZ, the federation demanded government revive the sick and defunct industrial units in various parts of Nagaland before taking up NSDZ.
NLSF has further asked the government to maintain democracy by making its policies and programme transparent and then hold a public referendum before adopting any resolutions on NSDZ.
