H&WF deptt Wokha organizes health education camps

In commemoration of global iodine deficiency disorders prevention day, health & family welfare department, Wokha district observed it by organizing health education camps in five schools from October 30 to November 4.
The resource persons for the camps ZLO Dr. Mhonchan, DPM Matsung and media officer, (NHM) Mhonbeni disseminated the importance of Iodine intake in daily diet, the health effects caused due to lack of Iodine.
Demonstration of the salt to know whether it contains Iodine through the salt testing kit was performed by the resource persons.  The health education camps was followed by an inter school drawing competition held on November 4 at chief medical officer, conference hall. Altogether, four schools, GHSS Chukitong, GHS Englan, GMS Longsa, GHS Nyiro students participated in the drawing competition, where Tongphio of GHSS Chukitong, Loreno of GHS Englan and Lotsani GHSS Chukitong bagged the first, second and third prize respectively.
CMO Wokha Dr. Enrithung CMO and deputy CMO Dr. Tumchobeni gave away the certificates and cash prizes and encouraged the students to take part in extra-curricular activities apart from the school curriculum. IEC materials on Iodine- posters, leaflets (English, Lotha) were distributed to the students and the schools.
