BJP state unit party workers Sunday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Police Conference hall Chumukedima during which he saluted party workers for their efforts to establish BJP base in Nagaland despite difficult situations and unseen hurdles.
The Prime Minister also assured the party workers that he would take the party into confidence in any developmental works to be allotted to the state. Modi asserted that there was no need for him to announce packages to states he visited since if such a trend continued, it would make it difficult to usher development to the country.
Modi however said help required from the Centre could be challenged through budget. He informed that since coming to power at the Centre, the BJP has granted Rs.63,000 crore to the north east states for various developmental works. Modi also opined that in democracy arms and violence have no space and urged the people to seek peace as it was the need of the hour as expressed by various NGOs and other stake holders.
BJP state unit president Dr. Chuba Ao in his welcome address, thanked Modi for the concern shown on Nagas by visiting the state with six months on assuming office. Chuba urged Modi to to convey to the nation that the Nagas were “not hostile to India” and that the Nagas were emotionally attached with their brethren residing in other states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and country like Myanmar. Dr. T.M Lotha in his speech, extended gratitude to the central government, the party and senior advisor Satyapal Jain, for the hard work and interest put in disposing the disqualification case of the three MLAs. Parliamentary Secretary Transport Piawang Konyak also addressed the gathering. Others present included Tapir Gao national secretary, Johny Rengma vice president BJP ST morcha including those who joined BJP such as former ministers T.A.Ngullie, Dr. K. Zhimomi, retired finance commissioner H.K. Khulu.
