To express their resentment over recent attacks on Churches in Delhi, a section of members of Christian community in Nagaland staged a protest in front of state BJP office, Super Market here Saturday.
Holding placards, some of which read ‘I am not afraid to be Christian’, ‘Modi we want action not silence’ ‘stop supporting church attackers’, ‘No to Hindutiva, yes to secularism’, ‘Jesus save India’, ‘BJP stop communalizing India, the representatives from various Christian denominations joined hands and sang ‘we shall overcome’.
One of the Christian workers Obangtemsu Aier said Christian community in Nagaland strongly condemned the recent attacks on Churches in New Delhi.
Aier said desecration of Holy Cross and burning down of an altar in Delhi, reflected the deep seated hatred that the saffron forces in India have against the religious minorities, especially Christians.
The members also urged upon the BJP-led NDA government under Narendra Modi not to remain silent as it implicitly encourage “anti National forces” like RSS, Sang Parivar and Bajrang Dal to tear India to pieces to fulfil their “distorted vision of Bharat.”
Community members also alleged that the attacks have been encouraged by the “communal speeches” of Modi, who “stubbornly refuses to enforce constitutional guarantee of right of freedom of religion in India.”
They said the increased cases of prosecution of Christians throughout India by the communal forces only strengthened their resolve as Christians to stand up and fight for the right, not as minority but as citizens of great country.
Meanwhile, the members expressed support to the Christians of India, affirming they would stand with them and struggle together to rid the country from the scourge of “cancerous saffron forces.”
Christian community members appealed to Nagaland Governor PB Acharya and chief minister TR Zeliang to send a message to the BJP and RSS not to further discriminate religion but to vandalize the communal violence.
