Implement court order against illegal collection: NVCO to govt

Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO), which met state chief secretary April 22 last, has urged the state government to effectively execute the Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench judgement that ordered complete ban on illegal collection of cash at the check-gates and on highways. The judgement & order dated June 3, 2014 passed by Gauhati High Court disallowed several bodies from collecting “cash/contribution” at check-gates and on any national/state highways. The order also directed not to establish office, sub-office, pay-counter, information centre along highways.
In a press release, NVCO press & media cell said its president & convener ACAUT (legal cell) Kezhokhoto Savi briefed the state chief secretary at his chamber about the Court judgement, which also strengthened the state government orders and notifications banning illegal collections of cash on highways and check-gates in the state.
Stating that illegal collections of cash contribute to price-rise in the state and Dimapur in particular, which was considered to be the most affected place, NVCO maintained that many trucks coming from outside refused to enter Nagaland because of the forcible collection of ‘taxes’. NVCO requested the state chief secretary to take up necessary actions immediately and completely stop the illegal collections of cash.
It further requested him to issue necessary instructions to all the deputy commissioners to effectively implement the court order and also execute the state government order dated June 22, 2009 that disallowed collection of cash in the check-gates or in any part of the highways by individual or government departments.
Meanwhile, NVCO has appreciated and extended support to Tuli citizens for their fight against illegal taxation at Nagaland check gate, Amguri. Asserting it was high time citizens “join hands in this fight” against illegal collection, the organisation further called upon all to rise up and boldly fight illegal and corrupt practices in the society.
