Taking note of numerous unregistered vehicles and those plying with registered numbers from outside the state, Commissioner of Police Dimapur warned of penalties under MV ACT 1988.
In a press release issued by Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police/PRO, Dimapur, as per provision of section 39 of Motor Vehicle (MV) Act 1988– no vehicle shall be driven in any public place without registration and contravention of the section shall invite fine up to Rs.5000 but not less then Rs.2000 and one year imprisonment or upto Rs.10,000 for second or subsequent offence but not less than Rs.5000 or both. PRO also pointed out that temporary registration allotted under section 43 of the same Act shall be valid only for a period not exceeding one month, which is not renewable.
PRO said a vehicle registered in one state cannot be kept in another state for a period exceeding 12 months. Those violating the rules would be liable/penalised under section 177 of the Act with Rs.100 as fine for first time offence and Rs.300 for second and subsequent offence. While informing that the Act would be put in force, police advised vehicle owners to initiate/fulfil necessary formalities at the earliest.
