May 13, 2015 | by admin

Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang reiterated that Nagas need to preserve unity as well as cultural and ethnic identity as without them, other people will neither respect nor care. He said this at Senapati town on Tuesday at the launch of the NPF campaign for the Autonomous District Council (ADC) election in Manipur be held on June 1.
He said the main objective of the NPF party expanding to Manipur was to give a common platform for the Nagas to stand as one since Nagas in Manipur are in minority. He urged upon all Nagas to vote for NPF candidates in order to send a strong message to Manipur and the Cenre that Nagas are united.
He reiterated that the desire of Nagas, though divided by administrative boundaries was to remain united as one.
In this regard the Nagaland Assembly had passed resolution for integration of all Naga contiguous areas on several occasions, he said.
Whether Naga areas are integrated or not in the future, he said “we should continue the effort for social and emotional integration.” He further appealed to the Manipur Nagas to participate in the election rather than boycotting in order to bring changes in the system. He opined that the ADC may need re-structuring, more empowerment in terms of functions and financial powers.
Recalling the launch of the NPF party in Manipur state at Senapati town in 2011, Zeliang said that time the situation was not good. However presently, he said the Manipur chief minister cooperated by sending escorts and security and things have changed.
He also said if the chief minister of Manipur went to Nagaland for campaigning, the Nagaland government would also warmly welcome him.
President NPF central HQ Kohima Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu in his address said election was an opportunity to meet the electorate at the grass root level and educate the mass with the policies and principles.
He advised the contesting candidates not to fool people with money or any other gratifications, but treat people with respect and to make them understand the party’s objective.
Dr. Liezietsu said NPF has offered a platform to the people to stand together and defend their rights. Parliamentary secretary and ministerial in-charge of NPF Manipur State Unit Neiba Kronu said out of 146 inspiring candidates, 86 were issued NPF party ticket and four declared uncontested. He said there were two women candidates and candidates from Kuki community.
The programme was led by Dr. S. Loli and Henya Lirina and introduction of NPF candidates by Honreikhui Kashung general secretary NPF Manipur.
