Taking a tough stand to curb criminal activities particularly “illegal demands” in the state and to ensure security to the citizens, Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland has directed the Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur and all the district Superintendents of Police (SPs) to take stringent action against those responsible.
Informing this in a press release, SP (Crime) & PRO, Nagaland Police, M. Tungoe, IPS, said that the DGP has directed CP Dimapur and district SPs to register criminal cases against any group, factions or individuals making such demands which are accompanied by fear, threat, intimidation or coercion.
The directive has been issued taking strong note of various underground factions, NGOs, trade unions, associations and groups of individuals serving notices to various government establishments, institutions, business community and even individuals demanding deductions from salaries, developmental works, business transactions etc. by putting the latter under fear, threat and intimidation.
The PRO further warned that such demands would tantamount to Extortion under chapter – XVII of Indian Penal Code.
Further, CP Dimapur and SPs have also been directed to inform all government establishment, business community and public in general to inform Police about illegal demands received by them so that necessary action can be initiated as per Law.
