Awareness prog on adoption in Dmu

State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Dimapur and Legal Service Authority (LSA) organized legal awareness programme on adoption for nursing home and Church leaders on July 16 at Circuit house conference hall, Dimapur with programme manager of SARA Renchumi Imti  and programme officer Kekuolhuno Nakhro as a resource persons.
The programme was conducted to create awareness among the medical practitioners to discourage informal adoption taking place in hospitals and nursing homes.
In the programme, Imti spoke on adoption, impact on legal and illegal adoption and explained the pros and cons of legal adoption, procedures to follow. She also presented case studies of illegal or informal adoption leading a child to become a victim of abuses and being trafficked while Nakhro presented an overview on “carings”, an online portal.
Founder and director of Mothers Hope Moamenla Jamir while sharing her views and experiences said that the legal adoption is the safest a child’s future is secured. Director of Prodigal’s Home K. Ela presented two case studies of adoption from a Church perspective and illegal adoption from nursing home perspective.  She said adoption done through improper channel may hunt a person even after 15 years. Ela also encouraged the participants to educate, propagate and create awareness on legal adoption. DCPO of DCPU Pikato E Tuccu maintained that cooperation of every stakeholder was important to work for the interest of a child.
The programme was attended by representatives from churches, doctors, nurses, and administrative staffs of nursing homes, childline, social worker and NGOs.
