Flash-flood at New Thewati village cripples normal life

Severe flash-flood that hit New Thewati village under Phokhungri area on August 1 has crippled normal, cutting off road connectivity, electricity and communication.  
Deputy Commissioner, Phek along with officials including E.E. and DPO of NSDMA visited the areas to take stock of the situation, DIPR stated. 
It was observed that the situation was serious in nature after the flash-flood from a small stream widened the bank to around 200 feet and 35 feet deep, destroying road and bridges. 
The bridges at Khayoti, Liyakti, Yuthriti river and below Letsam the bridge connecting Laruri to Phokhungri were all washed away. The landslides in several locations have also blocked the New Thewati-Phokhungri road. Five villages of Phokhungri administrative circle have been completely cut-off.
It was also reported that one Jacob Pochury was swept away by the flash-flood in Khayoti River. However, till date, the dead body has not been found, DIPR stated. 
Meanwhile, villagers of the area have volunteered to construct temporary wooden bridges and clearing of landslides. In this regard, DC, Phek had also donated Rs. 80,000 to the PAPO president and Rs. 40,000 to EAC Phokhungri.
Villagers were apprehensive that if the road was not cleared at the earliest, people would face scarcity of essential commodities. 
It may be mentioned that the situation was brought to the notice of the authorities after SDO (C) and OC Meluri visited the New Thewati village on August 1.
