
GOC Spear Corps Lt. Gen. Bipin Rawat met Muwala Sangtam (25) an OP Sadbhavana beneficiary (2014-15) who was provided artificial prosthesis for both upper limbs by Spear Corps at Headquarter, 3 Corps Rangapahar .
Lt. Gen. Rawat interacted with Muwala daughter of Chotingchum Sangtam, resident of Chanchor village, Kiphire and appreciated the quality of the limbs provided to her.
He also appreciated the efforts put in by the unit and specialist doctors of Dimapur Field Hospital. Lt. Gen. Rawat also reiterated that the army would continue all efforts to help and aid the Naga people and Naga society with various activities.
A press note handed over to media by 3 Corps media cell, stated that Muwala who lost both her upper limbs on October 8, 2012 in an unfortunate incident was initially managed at Dimapur District Hospital.
It said a revision surgery of both upper limbs was carried out and artificial limbs were provided.
However, media cell said the same was “very heavy and non functional” which she discarded after a short course of time.
It further stated that Dimapur field hospital was given the responsibility by Spear Corps to provide her with artificial prosthesis for both upper limbs. Media cell said the task was task was difficult as her limbs were amputated from the shoulder joints. It said the aim was to provide light weight artificial prosthesis with partial functionality and good cosmetic look.
Media cell said artificial limbs were procured and fitted on March 26, 2015 followed by intensive rehabilitation regime and that Muwala has been now using artificial limbs for approximately six months.
After six months of rehabilitation, media cell said partial functionality has been achieved which it said was likely to improve further with continues use. It said Muwala’s parents have been her major source.
Headquarter, 3 Corps Rangapahar has also expressed gratitude to senior Prosthetist, Chittaranjan Das and CO 46 Assam Rifles for their support and providing logistics to Muwala.
It may be noted that regional president army wives welfare association, Madulika Rawat, was also present on the occasion. She felicitated Muwala Sangtam and conveyed all good wishes for her speedy recovery.
