Reacting to the statement issued by Dimapur Urban Councils Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Dimapur District GBs Association media cell highlighted “who GBs are, and how GBs are selected and appointed”.
DDGBA said GBs were selected by the people of the colony/area and the same forwarded to the state government, after which a formal appointment order was issued “to act, help the people and government for better relationship, development etc. in the colony/area.”
In rural areas, DDGBA said, based on the village council act, village council chairmen have certain role to play. However, in the urban areas under the municipality act, the leaders/representatives are elected to look after developmental work in the concerned ward/area.
In this regard, DDGBA said that unlike the rural areas, the council act was not applicable in municipal areas. “Therefore it will be better if colony council chairmen consult with GBs”, it added. Reminding that the GB institution existed prior to British regime, DDGBA urged upon the DUCCF not to comment about the GBs in the future.
DDGBA further said that the concerned authorities/departments know better “to whom they shall address or communicate for betterment of the people in concerned colony or area.”
