Districts to combat illegal collection at check gates

Following state government order to immediately remove all check gates set up by police and other departments, barring the interstate check gates, district administrations held emergency meeting to implement the same.
Kohima: Kohima district administration held an emergency meeting with Police, Transport and IPR at the Chamber of DC Kohima on Friday. According to DIPR report, at the meeting, DC Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie highlighted the state government notification in detail and briefed the members on the steps and measures to be taken up at the district level.
As per the government’s directive, an Inspection Team of the district was constituted with ADC (Hq) as the team leader along with additional SP, regional transport officer and district public relations officer as team members.
Thejawelie said the team was constituted to conduct regular inspection of any functional unauthorized check gates and also to conduct comprehensive inspection of illegal collection of money taking place in the district.
Pointing out the important role of the “inspection team”, Thejawelie said the team has to ensure that all concerned departments close down and dismantle any temporary structure/ building standing at the location of unauthorized check gates within Kohima district.
Dimapur: To combat alleged illegal collection of money from the vehicles at check gates and other locations, a meeting was held Friday at the Conference Hall of District Commissioner (DC) Dimapur under the chairmanship of SDO(C) Sadar, N. Zubenthung Ngullie. According to DIPR report, Ngullie highlighted that the inspection team would carry out further necessary action on May 21 starting from the Burma Camp area check post and shall submit the first inspection report to Deputy Commissioner on or before May 23.
Peren: To combat the alleged illegal collection of money from the vehicles at check gates and other locations in the district and in compliance with the notification of the Home Department, political branch, DC Peren has informed that all check gates within the district including police check gates have been suspended with immediate effect from May 19. According to DIPR report, the DC has requested all to initiate necessary actions and ensure strict compliance with the notifications.
Further, the DC has also convened a meeting of all concerned on May 24, 12 p.m. at the Conference Hall of DC Peren to deliberate on the subject.
