
Senior member of NSCN (I-M) ‘gen. (rtd.)’ V.S. Atem on January 25 took an oath as a member of collective leadership during joint council meeting held at CHQ, Hebron.
According to MIP, V.S Atem, an economics graduate from St. Anthony, Shillong, joined the Naga Army on September 6, 1973. From a humble beginning as a private in Naga army, Atem became the Chief of Army in 1989 till July 24, 1999, stated MIP. It also stated that Atem had served Naga nation in various capacities as Kilo Kilonser, Kiya Kilonser, Chaplee Kilonser, Convenor Steering Committee and also an Emissary to the Collective Leadership. “Gen. (Rtd.)” Atem is a prominent member to the ongoing Peace Talk between Government of India and NSCN. Besides, newly inducted 35 Tatars, two deputy kilonsers and one Steering Committee Member also took an oath of allegiance. MIP has wished them all success in their new responsibility.
