NGPTA on revamping edn deptt

Nagaland Government Primary Teachers’ Association (NGPTA) has appealed to the state government and policy makers to realize the paramount importance of primary teachers in the proposed revamping and restructuring of the school education department and accommodate its genuine proposals. In a representation to minister of school education, NGPTA president Heikieleung Zeliang, vice president Mesewe Chirhah and general secretary Kezhalesa Kin said the initiative to revamp and restructure the department of school education was the need of the hour so as to streamline the education system in the state.
The association apprised that primary teachers were the foundation of education as they constituted almost 50% of teaching faculty in school education department.
Therefore, NGPTA pointed out that any changes or reforms should begin at the primary level for effective end result.
However, the association claimed that they have been ignored and over-looked in every re-structuring and revision of pay.
Maintaining that primary teachers were one of the most neglected and underprivileged employees, the NGPTA said they were appointed as primary teachers and retire as primary teachers in spite of their selfless service as a nurse, chowkidar, sweeper, peon, caretaker, etc. besides teaching.
