
Three-day conference of Kiphire Tuensang District Sumi Students’ Union (KTDSSU) commenced Saturday at Sikiur “B” Village under Tuensang district.
Minister for Power C. Kipili Sangtam who was supposed to be the chief guest was represented by his personal secretary Likhumse Sangtam as the former could not make it for official commitments.
Addressing the gathering, Likhumse Sangtam deliberated on KDTSSU’s motto “March for Unity” and urged the students to work for the betterment of the society. He asked them to be agents of change and work towards brining positive changes in the society.
Pointing out that degree alone would not suffice in this competitive era, Sangtam challenged the students to obtain quality education and hone their skills.
In his speech, KTDSSU president Yashika Sumi said that Kiphire and Tuensang district coexists and are inhabited by different tribes therefore urged the students to be advocates of peace.
Highlight of the programme includes folk dance by Nitoi Village, Ayekuzule (spinning of tread), traditional fire making competition from each units. The programme was chaired by Miss Sumi 2014 Kihikali Yeptho.
