BJP Nagaland state executives held its first executive meeting in BJP office, Old Town Zunheboto, Wednesday. The meeting also coincided with the 36th BJP foundation day.
Spokesperson state BJP and in-charge Zunheboto district Yanghose Sangtam in his speech narrated briefly on the foundation of BJP by the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpyee and veteran leader LK Adavani.
He urged the party workers to rededicate themselves so that party in the state could be strengthened.
Former Congress candidate and state BJP vice president Mughato Achumi lamented on the fall of Congress party in National level and state respectively.
To revamp BJP party in the state, Achumi said party workers and leaders should be humble and coordinate with the public starting from grassroot level.
He said, “Congress is no more a major player in the district; BJP and NPF (Regional) party (s) will be the main contenders in the next upcoming 2018 NLA election”.
State BJP executive members- – Scato HC Sümi and Shikuto Sema also addressed the gathering.
At the meeting, mandals presidents and other district unit leaders put forth various issues and grievances, to which the state visiting leaders gave a patient hearing and responded positively.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by president BJYM, Zunheboto district while district general secretary Abel Achumi recorded the proceedings.
Meanwhile in a separate programme, BJP observed its 36th foundation day at Wokha district on Wednesday which was attended by state vice president, K. James Vizo, district BJP in-charge of Wokha and accompanied by state executive member, Er. Longshithung Kikon.
Addressing party workers in the second session of the district executive meeting, Vizo highlighted the recently concluded state executive meeting held at Kohima on March 29. He stated that the state BJP had resolved to support for early solution to the Indo-Naga political issue which will be honorable and acceptable to all sections of the Naga people.
On the governance, the party affirmed its stand as a national party to support efficient and clean governance and strive to check corrupt practices prevailing in the state.
Whereas, on the issue of illegal immigrants, the party support the measures adopted in identifying and streamlining of illegal immigrants in the state so as to ensure that bonafide citizens were not deprived and demography of the state was not disturbed.
While acknowledging the central BJP leaders, the BJP vice president said the district unit also extended its due honors to the founding local leaders such as late N. C Zeliang, Dr N. Rhesto and Pious Lotha. On the occasion, BJP Wokha paid its respect to the former state presidents, late N. C Zeliang and Dr N. Rhesto by observing one minute silence.
Further, all mandal units of Wokha district have also been directed to complete its executive committee and its office bearer lists at mandal levels and local units on or before April 10, along with its mandal meetings report and photographs which would be sent to center as per its directive.
The meeting also resolved that as far as office building construction committee and matters related to party affairs were concerned, the district president in consultation with the BJP MLAs and the district in-charge of the concern district would be constituted. The meeting was chaired by the district BJP president James Patton and attended by members from various mandal and district level workers.
