Immediate relief in the form of cash were distributed to the affected families of the May 1 cyclonic-type thunderstorm in Wokha district on Monday.
DC and chairman, DDMA Wokha along with other DDMA members and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) officials toured the affected areas and handed over the cash relief to the area charge officers for onward distribution to the affected families.
It may be mentioned that many people in Wokha district were rendered homeless after hundreds of dwelling homes were completely destroyed by the cyclonic-type thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rains which lashed the state in the wee hours of May 1, 2016.
Apart from dwelling homes, the thunderstorm also damaged government buildings including schools and a rest house.
Road and telcommunication connectivity were affected even as electric poles and lines were snapped during the thunderstorm which also destroyed rubber plantations and other food-crop farms.
