
Expressing concern over frequent agitations called by various associations, the minister for school education and SCERT, Yitachu, has urged the associations to exhaust all possibilities to reach an understanding with the department before resorting to agitation. The minister was speaking at a consultative meeting with the representatives of NSEAOA, ANHTU, NRMSATA, NSSATA, ANPETA, ANGPTA and NGHSSEA here on Saturday.
Stressing the need for creation of more opportunity for primary teachers, who constituted 65% of the teachers in the state, the minister expressed appreciation that some primary teachers could even teach in higher classes. He also said that even SSA and RMSA teachers should be taken at par with state teachers so long as the flagship programme was implemented.The minister, therefore, urged teachers to leave a legacy and positive impact by utilising the given opportunity.
Admitting that the department has huge accumulated problems, Yitachu said it was difficult to bring new initiative while tackling with the problems in the department.
Stating that disagreement was not good for the department at the juncture, the minister advised the teachers and department officials to fit in the policy or formula. Reiterating that total bifurcation of class 11 and 12 (higher secondary) alone was not possible unless there was suggestion for a workable formula, the minister expressed hope that ANSTA and NSSFOF would not resort to next phase of agitation. He also informed that the department would exhaust all means to pursue with the ministry to release salary for 1,379 Hindi teachers. State commissioner secretary school education and SCERT, F.P. Solo, who chaired the meeting, acknowledged primary teachers as important segment of the society, saying they build the foundation and career prospect of the children.
He urged the teachers associations, who were not part of the agitation, to continue taking classes regularly in spite of the shortage of teachers.
Solo informed that cadre and representation review by every segment of the department would also be taken.
Additional director school education, Wonthungo Tsopoe, informed that compartmental exam would be held across the state from first week of June. He lamented that agitation would adversely affect career of students. He appealed to all the associations under school education to help conduct the exam successfully. Representatives from various associations addressed their grievances with regard to service rules and promotion while making a clear stand on the agitation. The members present at the meeting also adopted a three-point resolution.
