Assam Rifles (AR) has “condemned” the Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) press statement on ‘Wuzu firing incident’ as “factually incorrect and inflammatory.”
In a press note, PRO IGAR North, stated that PSU has “incorrectly alleged that two minor children were brutally gunned down by 46 AR.” PRO alleged that “when AR convoy reached Wuzu village, it was “deliberately stopped by villagers totalling about 300 with the intention of snatching slain cadre’s body on explicit instruction of NSCN (K) cadres.” “On being forcibly stopped convoy came under heavy fire and two minor children died due to terrorist fire. In retaliation and self defence, Assam Rifles troops resorted to limited and controlled firing towards fleeing NSCN (K) cadres,” PRO added. The PRO also informed that the incident was under judicial inquiry and the verdict was awaited. Further, PRO stated “the image of AR is being tarnished by such malicious statements.
