Kma citizens show solidarity to Wuzu firing victims

To show solidarity with the victims of July 16, 2015 Wuzu firing incident, hundreds of Kohima citizens gathered at old MLA hostel junction Saturday night and held candlelight service. Simultaneously a solidarity programme was held at Wuzu village in memory of victims late Aso (13) and late Tuzali (14).
Speaking at the service, Naga Hoho president, Chuba Ozukum, pointed out that report on Wuzu firing incident could not be bought out even after a lapse of one year.
He alleged that the “heinous crimes” has been committed by the “occupational forces” not only in Nagaland but also in other parts of North East states. On the killing of four NSCN(R) cadres killed at Kheti village in Arunachal Pradesh, he said “Indians cannot compare Naga struggle as secessionist or terrorist”.
Lamenting that recently government of India had decided to extend AFSPA for another six months, Ozukum said that the Naga Hoho has appealed to government of India to repeal the AFSPA from the state.  Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) convener, Neingulo Krome, said change has to come from top and the society should not only condemn but also do something.  Naga Mothers Association (NMA) advisor, Rosemary Dzuvichu, condemned the Wuzu firing incident and reiterated the demand placed before the home minister and Prime Minister Office last year to repeal AFSPA and withdraw Disturbed Area Act (DAA) from the state. She said NMA along with Pochury mothers had filed writ petition in the Supreme Court last year and the Supreme Court in its hearing referred the case back to the High Court with speedy instruction to be heard and justice to be done.
NMA advisor urged Pochury community to submit in affidavit testimony on the Wuzu killing, which, she said would be crucial to the findings of Wuzu killing.
NSF president, Subenthung Kithan “vehemently condemned” the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), which, he said authorised Indian army to arrest without warrant or kill on mere suspicion.
He also called for de-militarization of frontier and borders by the government of India. Stating that there was an ongoing political negotiation and peace process between government of India and Nagas, NSF president said any policy that harmed the atmosphere of trust and confidence should be summarily repealed at the earliest.
He further demanded the inquiry commission to produce the findings of the Wuzu firing at the earliest.  Giving a brief report on the Wuzu firing incident, Pochury Students Union (PSU) president Joyson Pfithu said the government had set up a magisterial inquiry on July 10, 2015, which was asked to submit the report within 15 days and a single member inquiry commission was set up on November 22, 2015 and asked to submit the report within one month.
However, Pfithu said even after eight months since the inquiry commission was set up “nothing has been done till now for reason known to them”.
Demand for fast track action
Expressing resentments at the responsible authorities “for not taking sincere initiative and playing delay tactics” over July 16. 2015 Wuzu firing incident, the Pochury organisations have “strongly” appealed for a fast track action “in favour of the victimised family.”
In a joint press release, Pochury Hoho president Penthü Pochury, Pochury GBs’ Unuion president Nyupuchu and Pochury Mothers Association president Machü Joshou stated that a consultative meeting of all Pochury Hoho Office bearers, frontal organisations and range presidents under Pochury area was convened on July 16, 2016 to discuss the Wuzu firing incident, which has elapsed one year with no outcome.
At the meeting, the house noted that multi independent enquiries of different agencies like administration; police; magisterial; state government; Assam Rifles and 12 Para Commandos have failed to give the “true and justice report for further necessary action as demanded by the public.”
The house lamented that if the Assam Rifles and Para Commandos did not touch and carry the slain NSCN (K) cadre bodies at the first place the incident would not have occurred and could have been avoided.
Therefore, the house concluded that as per the eyewitness and spot verification reports the Assam Rifles and 12 Para Commandos were cent percent responsible for the incident.
The house while “remembering Wuzu firing incident to bring justice at the earliest” also contemplated on the extension of the Disturbed Area Act in Nagaland and described it as “unfortunate” and “uncalled for.” In this regard, the Pochury public have urged the Government of India to withdraw AFSPA and DAA from Nagaland in order to bring about peace as desired by the Nagas.
