To take stock of the latest status of the power outage problem in Mokokchung, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) met the Mokokchung electrical division executive engineer (EE), N. Mozhui, on July 18, 2016, and reminded that public of Mokokchung were “already uneasy” and things must not be delayed to prevent violent reactions.
In a press release, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem president Imkummeren Jamir, general secretary Taliakum Pongen and grievances cell convener Aolong Imchen said EE informed that the department was making all efforts to restore normal power supply at the earliest. EE also informed them that the transformer was in Dimapur for repairs.
At the meeting, MTLT demanded that the repair works be done diligently in the given time frame required for the completion.
According to MTLT, it was stated that the Nagaland government does not provide any funds even for basic maintenance of the equipment and that such maintenance was done through ‘pocket money.’
Stating that such expenses were borne by the individuals of the department and not through departmental funding, MTLT said it was appalled to notice “such substandard negligence by the government.”
MTLT while assuring the EE that it would take efforts “to calm the already volatile public restlessness”, however, cautioned that “mass movements are not dictated by any individuals/organisations but a spontaneous overflow of common interests for the welfare of all.”
