Nagaland Pradesh Congress (NPCC) has extended Hornbill Festival greetings to all. In his message, NPCC president K. Therie said Hornbill festival, an extension of State Inauguration day, provides a bird’s eye view of all the tribes of Nagaland. The colorful festival showcases tangible and intangible culture, customs and traditional and social practices of yesterday and of the electronic civilization of today, he said. Though the intangible culture was recorded in memory in the past, but today, he said these can be recorded with audio visual technology, and preserve them as many cannot be vividly described in words. “They are the most important characteristics of our identity,” he added.
He said those born in the 1940s and 50s were the most fortunate ones, since they were able to live and witness village life at the same time experience the electronic civilization.
“Accepted principles, ideologies that have been developed by philosophers through research and analysis are retold. Religion that goes way back to ancient times are retold,” he said.
While stating that the young ones were unfortunate to have missed the village civilization, Therie cautioned them not to be over enthused by the modern electronic civilization. “You may lose your identity before the world. Anytime and in any place, you may be called to perform one of your intangible culture to prove your identity, please be prepared. Our culture and customs are second to no civilization,” he stated.
With regard to managing the Hornbill festival, he said it was now matured to be privatized, possibly with government’s aid.
“Government should be free from allegation of corruptions. We wouldn’t like to hear of any more corruption charges this year,” Therie stated.
