
Member of Parliament and former chief minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio said the youths must be motivated by giving them space to prove their worth.
He said this while addressing the gathering as chief guest during the opening ceremony itinerary of the 3-day Indian International Model United Nations (IIMUN) Kohima chapter held at G. Rio School Kohima on Friday afternoon.
Rio said young minds were capable of formulating new hopes, ideas for bringing solution to many vexed issues, were better equipped and capable of carrying out research and can create awareness among their peers whereby many lives can be positively impacted with the right knowledge and influence.
He said the efforts of IIMUN in discuss ing national and local issue apart from international issue through critical thinking, teamwork, debating and writing skills would go a long way to inculcate in them a sense of responsibility and ownership in the making of a global citizen.
Rio stressed on the importance of instilling the young minds with right attitude and a positive mindset under a cordial environment so that they become valuable asset to the society. According to him, Nagas were denied their rights which was has been the root cause of many decades of conflict and unrest in Nagaland. He remarked that Nagas were divided into four states and a large chunk in Myanmar. He further encouraged the students to actively participate in the debates during this programme.
Director general IIMUN Kohima Harshi Shah, principal G. Rio school Temsu Waten and secretary general IIMUN Kohima Rishi Jain also addressed the gathering.
Special song was presented by Alobo Naga. Programme was attended by around 300 students from G. Rio School and others.

It provides the youth with a platform to voice their opinions by forwarding their drafted resolutions to the United Nations.
