Notun Bosti Council (NBC) has banned the sale of gutkha and alcohol within the colony.
In this regard, the volunteers of Notun Bosti Youth Forum (NBYF) as per the council’s directive conducted raid and seized gutkha from 13 shops. The seized gutkha were destroyed outside the council’s office on Thursday. The owners of the shops were also penalized.
According to NBC chairman, E. Jon Ezung, the volunteers have been entrusted to conduct surprise checking from time to time. He cautioned that defaulters caught for third offence would be expelled from the colony. He also said that council along with representatives of women and youth also conducted raid on sale of alcohol from the colony. During the raid, alcohol was seized from two houses.
The council has also resolved to impose complete ban on sale of sale of all chewable tobacco in the colony.
Further, the council has appealed to the neighbouring colonies to extend cooperation and implement ban on sale of alcohol and gutkha in their colonies.
