Cloudburst causes flood-like situation in Kma

State capital witnessed a flood-like situation after a sudden heavy rainfall coupled with hailstones and thunderstorm lashed the town on Tuesday afternoon.
Heavy rains clogged drains and flooded the main road in the heart of Kohima town. Vehicles with tires partially submerged had to negotiate flooded road.
Water flowing down from the Kohima Local Ground made the pedestrians difficult to pass through the area.
Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) OSD, Johnny Ruangmei, told Nagaland Post that there were unconfirmed reports of damage to property including some vehicles in Kohima town by the cloudburst. He said falling of retaining wall during heavy downpour was also reported.
According to NSDMA OSD, the sudden heavy rain was due to the factor of climatic change. He said that the amount of rainfall received in the state was quiet normal though some localised area received more.
Ruangmei said the Cloud Top Brightness Temperature (CTBT) in Nagaland on Tuesday was -20 to -40, adding that it could expect any types of heavy thunderstorm, hailstone and moderate rainfall across the state in the isolated areas.
NSDMA said moderate to thunderstorm weather was expected across the state for the next few days. NSDMA team is assessing damages caused to plantation and vegetation if any in today’s hailstorm. It was reported that hailstorm and heavy rain lashed other parts of Nagaland.
