Launching of Swachhagrahis in Dimapur

Under the directive of Ministry of drinking water and sanitation and in continuation of the Swachhata Hi Seva, the PHED urban and rural division Dimapur organized a launching programme of Swachhagrahis (cleanliness ambassadors), under Dimapur district, on September 24, at Town Hall, Dimapur. 

A press release from PHED, SDO Ichirang Zeliang stated that the Swachhagrahis are the foot soldiers `of the Swachh Bharat Mission (G) and the motivators in bringing about behaviour change with respect to safe sanitation practices. 

The programme was graced by EAC Dimapur, Tsidi Hairang as special guest, where he launched the Swachhagrahis of Dimapur district and exhorted them to make their village aware in adapting the value of cleanliness and make use of the toilets in creating a conducive environment for hygienic living. 

He also invoked the pledge of Swachh Bharat to the gathering. 

PHED rural division, executive engineer Er. L. Tongpang Longkumer gave the introduction to the Swachhata Hi Seva a fortnight event earlier launched on September 15, which will culminate on October 2.

He highlighted the status of the toilet construction under Dimapur district and commented on the remarkable achievement made through SBM (G).

Meanwhile, PHED, SDO Er. Ichirang Zeliang spoke on the role of Swachhagrahis and the importance of Swachhagrahis in achieving the ODF status and sustaining it through post ODF activities. 

He encouraged the Swacchagrahis to play a crucial role in sustaining the ODF status in their village. 

Topic on water supply and sanitation was delivered SDO Er. Wati Thomson Ao, “Health and hygiene” was delivered by JE Er. Hotolu Sumi and topic on “solid and liquid management” was delivered by Er. Imtisowa Walling SDO and the topic on “Water quality and Monitoring” was delivered by state chemist Roland Kikon.

The programme was chaired by PHED, SDO Er. Nirie-e Nisa and attended by swachhagrahis and WATSAN members from the both urban and rural villages under Dimapur district. 

Also, in the programme a letter of acknowledgement was given to all swachhagrahis, who attended the training.
