In a delayed report, two armed assailants allegedly attempted to murder a Naga officer, Benri Mozhui, an executive officer in the department of Nagaland State Agriculture Marketing Board, Dimapur, on Monday night at around 9 p.m. The assailants, which included a non-Naga, reportedly broke into the officer’s residence and hit him with a pistol butt when he went to open the door, leading to scuffle. In the ensuing scuffle, one of the assailants fired two shots at point-blank range. However, Benri miraculously escaped the first shot that pierced his shirt while the second shot (aimed on his head) hit his shoulder inflicting minor injury. The non-Naga reportedly fled during the scuffle. According to reports, when Benri ran towards his rooms to fetch his rifle, the assailant tried to shoot Benri for the third time but the pistol misfired. As per the reports, Benri also shot two rounds from his rifle but the assailant managed to escape.
When contacted, the victim informed this reporter that he had no personal enmity nor received any threats. An FIR has been lodged at West Police station and investigation underway.
Various organizations have strongly condemned the attempt to murder made on Benri Mozhui, son of C. Mozhui, a resident of Duncan Bosti on May 8 by two unidentified miscreants.
LHD: Lotha Hoho Dimapur (LHD) has condemned the attempt to murder on the life of Benri Mozhui son of Chumthungo Mozhui, an executive officer (Nagaland State Agriculture Marketing board) by unknown assailants.
In a condemnation note, LHD secretary Rainbow Ngullie appealed to all the right-thinking citizens to condemn such barbaric act on innocent citizens. The hoho further urged the law enforcing agencies to apprehend the culprit (s) and award befitting punishment at the earliest.
LED: Longtsung Ekhung Dimapur (LED) termed the attempted to murder on its bonafide member as “heinous and barbaric”. LED in a press statement said that on May 8 at around 9 p.m., two unidentified miscreants armed with “dangerous weapons” entered the private residence of Benri at Duncan Bosti and “shot him grievously”. It appealed to the law enforcing authority to immediately investigate the case and arrest the culprits at the earliest.
DBCD: Duncan Bosti Council Dimapur (DBCD) has also condemned the attempt to murder on its members on May 8. The council chairman, Roben Tungoe in a press statement appealed to the Dimapur police to investigate and arrest the culprits without any delay. DBCD also urged its bonafide residents to maintain peace and tranquillity within its jurisdiction.
