All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary in-charge of Nagaland, Dr. Jayakumar continued his tirade against the BJP, urging the people of Nagaland not to let a divisive force rule the state.
Addressing Congress party men here at the Congress Bhavan Mon, Dr. Jayakumar asked as to how could the people let BJP, a divisive force, rule the state when Nagaland was a Christian state, where people read Bible everyday and where Churches are visible in every nook and corner of the state.
With barely 180 days left before the declaration of election in the state, he urged upon the party men to remain strong and united to work with a single objective of bringing Congress back to power in the coming election. “If congress is not brought back to power, Nagaland will become the land of satan and destroyed to the last,” he cautioned.
Citing the example of eight Congress legislators who had defected to NPF, he lamented that Nagaland was one state where impossible things can become possible. He was however optimistic that the party would be able to work out a strategy to bring Congress back to power in the state.
While accusing BJP of luring the voters with money, Dr. Jayakumr also expressed sadness that most of the voters demand money and sell their fundamental rights during election. In this regard, he urged the party workers to uphold the principle of the Congress party and to stop the menace of the BJP. He pointed out that the responsibility of the Congress party was to bring change and check corruptions.
Also addressing the party workers, NPCC president, K. Therie said though the Congress MLAs had defected to NPF, the party has over three lakhs voters intact. He informed that the NPF would be divided and their vote share would be reduced in the 2018 general election giving a fair chance for the Congress to form the government.
He also accused the BJP and RSS of trying to convert all religion to Hinduism and to introduce hindi, Hindu cultural and religion in the school books. He cautioned that after 20 years our culture, identity, custom and Christianity would vanish if BJP and its alliance come to power in the state. Claiming that Congress was the only political party with a secular ideology, Therie alleged that the NPF was a political wing of the BJP and the RSS in the state.
When asked on the reports of Dr. S.C. Jamir, Governor of Odisha, being backed by RSS as the vice presidential Candidate, Dr. K. Jayakumar said he learnt of such development only through local media.
Admitting that he was not aware whether Dr. S.C. Jamir had accepted the offer or not, Dr. Jayakumar said “considering the Naga’s heritage, belief and territorial coverage in this part of the country and the background of Mr Jamir, who have come from a secular party, in no way will it will be an honor to the Nagas’ if he accepts the proposal. He should decline for the sake of the Nagas as such suggestion was coming from the Fascist and the casteism party, he said.
On the other hand, Therie said accepting the proposal of the BJP & RSS to become the Vice President by any Christian society would be one of the greatest disgrace, especially from a state like Nagaland.
He pointed out that the BJP and RSS would be using the Christian vice president as a flag post to signify that Christians were also participating in the RSS mission. “I cannot accept that as a Christian and as president NPCC,” Therie said.
