
NSCN/GPRN president, Late Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang was laid to rest on June 12 at the NSCN/GPRN Council Headquarters at Taka, Myanmar. Khaplang passed away on June 9, 2017. He is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter. The late president was paid rich homage by hundreds of mourners and Naga Army.
Khaplang, a Hemi Naga tribe of Myanmar, was born in April 7, 1940 in Waktham village, East of Myanmar’s Pangsau Pass. He headed the United Liberation Front of Western South East Asia (UNLFWSEA) a conglomeration of various North East insurgent groups based in Myanmar till his last breath.
MON: A group of women and children of Mon town on June 12 paid tribute to late S.S. Khaplanf by organising a candle light service. The candle light service was organised by Lucy, Nyemlang lt. general; Apan col NA; Tingkam, col NA, and Panging, col NA.

DENSU: Dimapur Eastern Naga Students’ Union (DENSU) while expressing deepest condolences at the demise of S.S Khaplang said the great leader dedicated his life for the betterment of the Naga society and that his legacy would continue to inspire many for years to come. DENSU said it observed June 13 as day of mourning as resolved by ENPO.
THN: Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland has expressed sadness over the sudden demise of S.S Khaplang. In a condolence message, the hoho said that late Khaplang was a leader and fighter who dedicated his whole life for the cause of Naga struggle for self determination and a leader who stood unwaveringly in what he believed. THN said the Nagas would always remember late Khaplanf with much respect as he had given his everything for the noble cause of the Nagas. In his death, the hoho said the Nagas have lost a brave fighter and one of the most dedicated leaders. The hoho has conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and to all rank and file of NSCN/GPRN and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
KTC: Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) while expressing shock at the demise of S.S Khaplang said he was a leader and figure in making the Naga history and who fought for Naga sovereignty. KTC has conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed to rest in peace.
PNUK: Poumai Naga Union Kohima (PNUK) has expressed deep sadness over the demise of S.S. Khaplang who fought for the rights of the Nagas till his last breath. PNUK has conveyed its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
YAN: Youth Association of Nagaland (YAN) has mourned the demise of late S.S.Khaplang and described him as a man of great courage and a visionary leader, who also was leading the United Liberation Front of Western South East Asia (UNLFWSEA) to protect the rights and aspirations of the Naga National Politics and to safeguard the interest of the minorities. He is one among the Naga National leaders who stood the ground to claim what in reality are our rights and that he did not surrender till his last breath. YAN has further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
NSCN/GPRN Konyak region: NSCN/GPRN Konyak region has expressed deep condolences at the sudden demise of late S.S Khaplang. A condolence message by NSCN/GPRN, Care Taker, CAO, kilonser, A. Langkhuh said the in his demise the Naga society has lost a great leader and a stalwart of the Naga cause who sacrificed and spent his entire life in the service of the nation. The Konyak Region prayed for the comfort of the bereaved family members and prayed the Almighty God grant place of peacefully in eternity.
Rev. Y. Chingang: Rev. Y. Chingang Konyak and family have extended condolences to the family of Mr. S. S. Khaplang. “For a soul who lived with a purpose he believed in, it is indeed a loss for all especially at this critical juncture when solutions are being sought”, read the condolence message. Rev. Y. Chingang Konyak and family has prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
