Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kohima conducted district level training on “prospects of honey bee keeping & awareness and sensitization on M.A.P and its importance with respect to Nagaland” on June 14 at DAO conference hall, Kohima.
In a keynote address, DAO & PD (ATMA), Vizonyu Liezie, said that honey bee has many utility as it could also create employment as well as economy.
In the first technical session, Bodevi Shüya, team member, NHBM shared on the topic and said that scientific bee keeping was practised since 300 years back and it was just a modification of traditional bee keeping. Before the introduction of scientific bee keeping, Nagaland could produce only 1100mt of honey however with the adoption of scientific bee keeping, the production has gone up to 3000-4000mt but it was still short for marketing, he added.
Different types of bee keeping such as over ground bee keeping, underground bee keeping, stingless modified hives were deliberated.
In the other technical session, Keneiluo-ü Dzuvichü, team member, NBRM said that Nagaland Bio Resource Mission was constituted in 2007 to achieve the objective for conservation of Bio-resource.
She briefed about the importance and conservation of medicinal and aromatic plants in our state as there were so many medicinal plants, yet to be deciphered of its proper benefit and uses. Dzuvichü said so far 650 identified medicinal & aromatic plants have been identified under Nagaland Bio Resource Mission.
The programme was chaired by Vimenuo, BTM Jakhama block and vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr. Vibeilie, BTM Tseminyu block. Altogether 18 farmers attended the training programme.
ATMA Phek: ATMA Phek conducted training and demonstration program under Kikruma and Chetheba block on June 1 and 2 at Kikruma and Chesezu Nasa villages respectively.
SDAO & BTT convener Kikruma block, Imtilepzuk and BTM Keduweteü Lomi were the resource persons. Topics covered during the two-day programme included scope of floriculture as a business enterprise, rodent management and packages and practices for maize cultivation.
Demonstration activities included making of detergent powder and liquid dish wash and also propagation method of flowering plants. Altogether 47 Farmers attended the programme. Raw materials for liquid dish wash and detergent making, maize seeds (HQPM-5 and 7 varieties), Roban and polybags for nursery raising were distributed to the participating farmers.
