Ex-MLA Veyikha passes away; Gov, CM others condole

Former MLA, Veyikha Ghaponza, who was the first from the Rengma community to be elected a member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly on 1964 from 12th Tseminyu assembly constituency, passed away on September 18. 
Nagaland Governor, P.B. Acharya, chief minister T.R. Zeliang, NPF president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, Nagaland Ex-Parliamentarian Association and others have conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members. 
Governor: Acharya described late Veyikha as a prominent social worker and great human being, who had dedicated his life for the welfare of the people of the state. Acharya said his contributions, sacrifices and service to the people for the development of the state will be remembered by all.  Further, the governor conveyed condolences to the family members and prayed that the departed soul rest in peace. 
CM: T.R. Zeliang in a condolence note to Mrs. Shiimo Apon and family, said late Veyikha has been regarded as fatherly figure among the Rengma Nagas and hoped that his legacy and exemplary life will continue to be a guiding star for the Nagas in general.
He also extended condolences and prayed to the Almighty God to grant peace and solace to the bereaved family members.
Dr Shuro: Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu said late Viyekha Apon, the first elected member of the NLA from the Rengma Naga tribe, had played a crucial role in the formative years of Nagaland State. He said at a time when Naga movement for self-determination was at its height and emotions against the Union of India was at the worst, late Viyekha was among the few Naga leaders who took the decision that before a final resolution of the Naga political problem was arrived at with the Government of India, it would be better to work side by side to improve the living conditions of the people.   He was also one of the first Naga regionalists, who contested successfully contested on Democratic Party ticket and remained steadfast behind the principles of regional politics, Dr. Shurhozelie said. 
“I have been privileged to be associated with him throughout my political career and found him to be whole-heartedly dedicated to the cause of the Naga people”, he added. 
NEPA: Nagaland Ex-Parliamentarian Association (NEPA) said it was saddened on the demise of late Viyekha Rengma. NEPA said that the late Viyekha dedicated his service, compassion and worked tirelessly for the people. 
The association prayed for solace to the bereaved family members at this hour of grief and the departed soul to rest in peace. 
RSU: Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) expressed pain and sadness over the demised of late Veyikha Apon Rengma, the first Rengma MLA to be elected from Tseminyu. 
The union said late Veyikha had been the source of strong pillar towards the welfare of the community and therefore, the integrity maintained by the late leader and his leadership had left a deep mark for generation to follow. RSU further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and the departed soul to rest in peace.
KPU: Kandi Public Union (KPU) in a condolence note, described late Viyekha as a man of principle, who never compromised justice and was a friend of both young and old. 
The union said that it was his simplicity and selfless service that attracted everyone’s heart.
In his death, the Kandi and Rengmas, have lost a great leader and the vacuum created will be difficult to fill in, KPU said. Further, the union conveyed condolences to Mrs. Shumu Apon and children and prayed that Almighty God grant them peace and eternal rest to the departed soul. 
DRSU: Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) has also expressed grief on the passing away of late Viyekha Apon Rengma, the first Rengma MLA hailing from Tsonsa Village under Tseminyu. The union said that late Viyekha’s contribution and commitment would not go in vain but would be remembered by the younger generation.
DRSU also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that Almighty God grant solace and peace to them at this hour of grief.
