Spelling Bee Championship a good platform for students: DC Kohima

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan, stated that Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship was a good platform for students as it encourages the students to learn the correct spelling. 
Speaking at the 6th Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship organised by Fountain Club in collaboration with SCERT Nagaland which got underway on Thursday at capital convention centre Kohima, the DC termed the spelling bee competition as an important event as it help the students to learn more spellings and increase efficiency in writing with lesser time during their exams and even competitive exams. 
While expressing concern over the use of incorrect and “short forms” of English words while communicating over various social media platforms, Rajesh asked students to do away with such habits and learn how to spell correctly.
Lauding the organisers for holding such event, the DC also challenged the organizers and the participants to aim for national and international level and bring laurel to the state.
In a keynote address, additional director SCERT Nagaland, Kezhalenuo Kesiezie, said that the Nagaland spelling bee championship was conceived and conceptualized by the SCERT Nagaland and was thus launched in the year 2012 in partnership with Fountain Club Kohima.
She said the competition was organised with a common vision and concern for the student community as in the modern technology driven world students have tendency to become careless with their spellings.
Kezhalenuo said this year the championship was held under the theme “The learning Edge” with a specific objectives to address the expected learning level of classes 7-10.  
 She said objective of the competition was to help students to improve their spellings, improve their vocabularies, learn new concepts, develop correct English usage, develop team spirit and skills, instil confidence and improve personalities, sharpen the young minds, provide opportunities for students to meet and compete with their peers in a fun and friendly atmosphere and also create new challenges foe higher learning.
The programme started with invocation prayer said by Immanuel Baptist Church Kohima, assistant pastor, Zakiebeituo Metha; welcome note was delivered by convenor organizing committee, Seyievizo Tsukru and Neizokhotuo Belho was the anchor of the inaugural session.   
The championship pronouncers are, Adila Longkumer, Mechüni Whiso, Ela Susan james and Vimesao Terhase and judges are Daniel Thong, N.C. Kikon, Agnes Krocha Tepa and Amongla. Altogether 41 students from 21 schools from Kohima, Dimapur and Phek districts are participating in the championship.
