Apex Sumi women organisation, the Sumi Totimi Hoho (STH), along with Western Sumi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) and Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SAKK) have strongly condemned the rape of a 60-year-old woman at Mishilimi village under Pughoboto on September 6 last by a migrant worker indentified as one Mutibur Rahman, son of Abdur Rahman of Karimganj district, Assam.
In a press release, STH president, Khegholi K Chophy, and general secretary, Viholi A Jimomi, affirmed that the hoho support the 30-day ultimatum served on Zunheboto district administration by the All Sumi Students Union (SKK).
WSTH: Western Sumi Totimi Hoho (WSTH), in a press statement issued by its joint secretary Tovili Yethomi, also condemned the incident and demanded the law enforcing authority to grant befitting punishment to the accused so no such crime was repeated in the future.
SAKK: Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SAKK) denouncing the rape incident asserted that such a heinous and gruesome crime committed against “our mothers and sisters by illegal immigrants” should be condemned by all.
In a press release, SAKK president, Khekuto V Achumi, and general secretary, Inushe Assumi, appealed to the responsible authorities and law enforcing agency to award befitting and exemplary punishment to the accused in order to avert recurrence of such crimes. Further, SAKK also strongly affirmed to extend support to the three-point resolution passed by the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) to flush out illegal immigrants from Zunheboto district jurisdiction.
