NPCC demands Imkong Imchen’s resignation

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has strongly condemned the alleged physical assault on principal director of Health & Family Welfare department, Dr. Bendangyanger Jamir by Health & Family Welfare minister Imkong L Imchen and demanded the latter’s resignation for his unbecoming conduct.
In a statement, NPCC said that the minister concerned had crossed all limits of decency by indulging in a senseless act that cannot be just wished away by tendering a mere apology. Stating that Imchen was a habitual offender despite being an elected lawmaker, the Congress said it was a disgrace to the people of Nagaland that such people were allowed to become Minister again and again even as his misdeeds continued to grow.
“When the minister has the audacity to physically assault a senior official without any second thoughts, then there is nothing more to expect from him when dealing with common people,” the party said.
The Congress said that after 15 years in government the arrogance of the NPF and its leaders had reached such a point that they have no hesitation in even physically assaulting senior government officials. It said the action of the government in deputing one senior Minister to plead on Imchen’s behalf was an indirect way of defending his reckless act and “for which the NPCC indicts the government for sheltering the accused minister and denying true justice to the Principal Director and the entire medical fraternity”.
Stating that Imchen continuing as a minister had become untenable, the NPCC demanded his immediate resignation to avoid bringing “further disrepute” to the office he holds. It also stated that should Imchen still “shamelessly clinging” on to his chair, chief minister, TR Zeliang should sack him from the Cabinet or “else the CM and the entire Cabinet would be held responsible for legitimizing his uncivilized conduct”.
