March 6, 2018 | by admin

An awareness programme on forest fire awareness campaign was held at Forest Range office Jalukie on March 5, wherein stakeholders of 25 villages from Jalukie Valley participated in the campaign.
A press release by Peren Forest Division (PFD), divisional forest officer Dr. Sentitula stated that the chief guest for the campaign Dr. Kenei Miachieo, conservator of forests (STC), Nagaland, highlighted the general forest management and encouraged the stakeholders to initiate and protect the forest. He expounded on the role of village councils in forest management and encouraged the villages to have community reserves which would act as banks of natural resources in the days to come. He also encouraged the villagers to go for forest plantation and stressed the ill effects of logging and hunting in their jurisdiction.
Dr. Sentitula highlighted the importance of fire and also how forest fire caused imbalances in nature and endanger biodiversity by reducing faunal and floral wealth. Hainkieng, chairman, Old Jalukie Village challenged all the chairmen and GBs present that from this year fire season onwards the village chairmen would act as forest ranger officers and GBs as foresters.
This would enable them to control the spread of forest fire and be able to report to the divisional forest office their success stories.
Vote of thanks and benediction was delivered by Vekusu deputy ranger.
