Reacting to the issue of 8000 pigs to be imported from Punjab, the Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department have clarified that import of 8000 pigs monthly at the rate of Rs. 200 crore per annum was “wrongly” reported in the media without the knowledge of the two departments.
In a joint press release, AH&VS director Dr. Aomangyang Walling and DUDA director KS Anden Konyak stated that the two departments held a joint meeting on September 19, 2018 “to make the departmental records straight and put the matter to rest.”
It may be mentioned that the report was widely published by various national news agencies quoting Punjab Animal Husbandry minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, that Punjab would soon be supplying pigs to Nagaland.
