‘World Animal Day’ celebrated across Nagaland

Zunheboto on Thursday joined animal lovers across the world in celebrating “World Animal Day” by visiting schools and educating the students on humane treatment of animals and importance of wildlife life conservation.

A press release from the office of Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) Zunheboto stated that the officials visited Step by Step School and Woodland Higher Secondary School.

It informed that the speakers stressed on the importance of constant education and awareness for creating a compassionate culture towards animals and making the world a better place for all the living creatures. 

Essay competition on “prevention of cruelty towards animals” was conducted in Woodland Higher secondary school where Linoka H. Sumi, Lilo P. Chishi and Ayeluto H. Awomi were adjudged first, second and third respectively and were awarded with cash prize.

AH&VS Kiphire: Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Kiphire observed anti rabies day in commemoration of World Animals Day 2018 at the Veterinary Hospital on October 4. 

According to DIPR report,  free anti rabies vaccination were given to the pets from morning. 

Chief veterinary officer Kiphire, Dr. H. Toluvi Ayemi informed that world Rabies day was observed to raise awareness about rabies and bring together partners to enhance prevention and control efforts worldwide as well in the district. Regarding the impact of rabies on humans and animals, Dr. H.Tulovi advocated support for increased efforts in rabies control.

AH&VS Kohima: The department of AH & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) , Kohima district let by Dr. Joseph M. Angami, deputy chief veterinary officer, Kohima accompanied by Dr. Vilatuo F. Rutsa as a special guest and the officers, Dr. Akannungla, Dr. Elizabeth Yhome along with their staff visited our school GMS Keyake on October 4. A press release from GMS Keyake head teacher, Vilavonuo stated that the visiting team from the department highlighted the importance of “Loving and caring” for pets and animals and for keeping up the ecological balance in celebration of the world animal day.

Chiephobozou: Wild Life Week was observed in Chiephobozou under the theme “Big cats-Predators under threat” organized by Kohima Forest Division on October 1 with the participants from students of DBS and GHS Chiephobozuo.

DFO Kohima, Rongsenlemla Imchen in her address highlighted on the importance of the role of the students with regard to wild life conservation. She thanked the students and the school authorities for their active participation and encouraged the students to engage in responsible activities so as to become important emissaries of change. 

Forest ranger, Pezaneinuo sensitized the students regarding the habits and behaviour of important wild animals found in Nagaland and also a quiz was conducted for the students on the same topic. Another forest ranger, Sanchu spoke on the importance of protecting wild animals and the relationship of each animal in the ecosystem.

Dominique from Earth Friendly Generation (NGO) also interacted with the students regarding wild life protection and conservation. To mark the occasion, a poster painting competition on the theme “Big cats-Predators under threat” was conducted for the participating schools. DFO also reminded that Wild Life Week programme will be conducted in the remaining ranges in next few days till it culminates on October 8.
