
Longleng District Task Force, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) on October 11 observed “International Day for the Girl Child” (IDGC) at the Local Football Ground.
A report by DIPR stated that in his keynote address, the deputy commissioner (DC) Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam, said that the purpose of observing the day was to show love and respect to girl children who are as important as boys.
He appealed to the people to love and respect their sisters and daughters both in the family and society. The DC called for an end to all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls.
District coordinator, MSK, Tutinungla, briefed the gathering on the BBBP program and appealed to the girls to raise their voice against domestic violence and discrimination against women and girls.
Voice of a girl child was proposed by students of Christian High School. Other highlights of the daylong celebration were a special number by Bautung GHSS Longleng, choreographed presentation by Mt. Carmel School, special song by winner of the singing competition on the BBBP theme, drama base on the life of Malala Yousafzai by the winners of the drama competition, felicitation of meritorious girls and women, school wise speech competition on BBBP, tug of war, slogan on BBBP, and prize distribution to the winners of the competitions.
