Seminar to promote higher fisheries education

A seminar promoting higher fishery education in the North Eastern hilly region was held at Hotel Saramati on March 6 with principal secretary, department of horticulture, MK Mero as special guest.

Speaking in a brief formal program, MK Mero lauded the ICAR-CIFE director, vice chancellor and faculty, for coming to Nagaland to educate farmers and the Fishery and Aquatic Resource department. Mero also emphasized on the need to develop fisheries through higher education for better growth of the state.

He mentioned that the department was also focusing on achieving a level of self-sustenance in fish production through identification of weaker aspects of resource utilization and development.

Also giving a brief introduction to the seminar, nodal officer & principal scientist, NEH unit of ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, Dr. PP Srivastava stated that the seminar was organized to promote higher fisheries education and provide need based trainings in the NEH region to bring self-sufficiency to the region. 

Additional director, fisheries and aquatic resources, Rongsen also urged the ICAR-CIFE faculty to assist the department in conducting more trainings and seminars. He also informed the gathering about the urgent need of more hatcheries. He also added that the State needed more support from the Central government under Blue Revolution scheme.

Earlier, a welcome address was delivered by Fishery and Aquatic Resource department, director, Kevisa Kense.

The resource persons for the seminar were Dr. PP Srivastava; principal scientist, Dr. Megha Bedekar; senior scientist and associate DEAN (Academics), Dr. Rama Sharma; and scientist, A. Pavan Kumar.

The seminar was attended by officials from the Fishery and Aquatic resource department.
