
Zonal level exhibition under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) organised by Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) commenced on Tuesday at Super Market Complex near Hotel Saramti, Dimapur.
The exhibition will culminate on April 4. According to the organiser, the exhibition is being organised with a holistic view of exposure of entrepreneurs engaged in rural industries and wider objectives of encouraging the local prospective entrepreneurs for their self-employment, economic self-reliance and to build up a strong rural community spirit.
Inaugurating the exhibition as special guest, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, asserted the importance of being self-sufficient by utilising the available resources.
Expressing concern over the depleting farming culture in rural areas of the state, Zehol urged the farmers to focus on yielding method of agriculture and not to be fully dependent on government schemes only. “It is an alarming situation where people are abandoning their fields,” said Zehol.
Appreciating that many Nagas are opting to be entrepreneurs, he asked them to remain steadfast and create more employment opportunities for others as well.
The DC also spoke on the problem of poor loan recovery faced by banks and urged the debtors to pay on time so that aspiring entrepreneurs would not face problems while availing loans.
At the inaugural programme, welcome address was delivered by NKVIB chief executive officer, Kuhoyi Jimo and vote of thanks was delivered by NKVIN deputy executive officer, A Khekiya Rengma.
It may be noted that PMEGP is implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) functions as the nodal agency at the national level. At the state level, the scheme is implemented through state KVIC directorates, State khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs), District Industries Centres (DICs) and banks.
