
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon inaugurated the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Wokha district on September 10.
A press release from CMO office Wokha stated that, Dr. Samoon in his speech said that UPHC will provide essential health services and lessen the burden of District Hospital Wokha for secondary and tertiary cases. He highlighted on the importance of accessibility, affordability, equitable, technology appropriate and relevant, focus on maternal and child health care for smooth functioning of the UPHC. Dr. Samoon urged the health workers to effectively deal with challenges related to adequate manpower, communitisation, proper referral system and land issues.
SPO NHM, Dr. Thanghoi Lam lauded the efforts of the medical staff in setting up the health centre and hoped that DC will be actively involved in the functioning of UPHC.
CMO Wokha, Dr. Robin Lotha informed on the availability of free facilities such as medical checkup, medicine, medical laboratory test, routine immunization for children and labour room facility.
UPHC staff will also tie up with Social Welfare department and observe nutrition day in wards and colonies every month, he added.
Joint director, Dr. W. Nchumbemo Ezung, who was also present at the programme, noted on the importance of direct purchase of land for setting up health centres to avoid the problem of land issues. Earlier, the programme was chaired by MO UPHC Wokha, Dr. Achumi K. Kikon and welcome address by chairman HCMC, UPHC, Zaremo Kikon. Rev. Thungrio Khuvung, pastor Wokha Town Baptist Church said the dedication prayer for the UPHC. The programme was attended by Dy.CMO, MS, MOs, medical staff, officials from Health and Family Welfare department Kohima and civil societies.
