While calling upon the Naga people to have more patience on the complex political issue of the Nagas, Imkong Imchen, MLA also sincerity appealed to the Naga underground leaders presently engaged in the political negotiation with the GoI to come to a unified political platform. He urged them to work out a consolidated political agenda instead of fighting among themselves and approaching the GoI with divergent stand and approach.

He said this while addressing the 9th Longjakrep Semchir Kichu Telongjem (LSKT) Mungdang at Khar village on Saturday. He also said that the constitution of India was one of the most resilient and flexible constitution in the world today and as such it has the capacity to accommodate various opinions and agendas. “And at the same time, the incumbent prime minister Narendra Modi has demonstrated his sincere commitment to bring about a logical conclusion to the Naga issue”, he said and “consequent upon which he has appointed R. N. Ravi as the government of India official interlocutor to conduct the political talks.”

As such, he said the Framework Agreement was entered with the NSCN-IM leadership in 2015, subsequently with the 7 Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) in 2017. However, the MLA lamented that till date, there could not be a consolidated/unified political platform among the Nagas set aside to bring about a common resolution. The division and disunity among the Nagas will be a very costly affair, he cautioned.

He further added that various Naga social organisations and individuals were urging upon the negotiating groups for an early resolution of this complex Naga political issue. However, the MLA expressed his regret that most of these organisations were intentionally or otherwise not mindful of a Naga consolidated political agenda to be presented to the GoI. He continued saying that Narendra Modi was eagerly looking for a unified Naga agenda so as to conclude the talk logically. “I believe and understand that the commitment of our prime minister still stands firm”, he added. In this regard Imkong L. Imchen pointedly emphasized that R. N. Ravi, who is also the governor of Nagaland, should not view the Naga issue as a law and order because Naga issue was not and is not a law and order issue but definite and distinctive political issue requiring political resolution.

He added that there were sixty (60) popularly elected people’s representatives (MLAs) in the state which constituted a political forum called Joint Legislatures Forum (JLF) to facilitate unity among the Naga underground groups. Imkong L. Imchen admitted the JLF has not yet officially deliberated upon the “agreed position entered between the seven NNPGs and the interlocutor R.N. Ravi” which was entered on October 17, 2019. The JLF is rather looking for a unity among the different Naga underground factions, he added.

He further added that demanding for early solution was appreciable however if the so-called early resolution does not bring about any greater status for the Naga people, then it would be like surrendering “our rights and opportunities”, whereby posterity will blame “us”. He seriously appealed to the Naga people that one cannot afford to overlook the opportunities offered by the incumbent prime minister Narendra Modi, but should take advantage on his commitment for a greater political status and opportunities.

Meanwhile, Imolemba Jamir, president Longjakrep Semchir Telongjem spoke on the topic “Tangatetep (Understanding)”.  Various speakers from different villages presented about the lineage of Kichu generations in their respective generations. Office bearers of the Mungdang gave a brief report of the Longjakrep Semchir Kichu Mungdang building.
