Pungro-Kiphire: 71.84 % voter turnout in re-poll

Re-polling at Singrep polling station 11 and Kipongya Ward A Kiphire Town polling station no. 8, both under 60 Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency, passed off peacefully on Saturday with 71.84% voter turnout.

With this the total voter turnout for the by-poll to 60 Pungro-Kihpire assembly constituency was 91.57%, CEO’s office stated.

According to state chief electoral officer (CEO) office, the voter turnout at PS 8- Kipongya Ward A Kiphire Town was 74.71 % (76% male and 73.34% female) while polling at PS 11- Singrep witnessed 69.48 % voter turnout (Male: 70.30% and female: 68.68%.) 

It may be noted that the CEO, Abhijit Sinha on November 5 said that the Election Commission had ordered re-poll in both the polling stations– 11 Singrep and 8 Kipongya ward ‘A’ Kiphire town under 60 Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency after declaring the November 3 polling as void “on the basis of the reports submitted, and after taking all material circumstances into account”. 

Meanwhile, counting of votes for the by-polls to the two assembly constituencies- 14 Southern Angami-I and 60 Pungro-Kiphire will take place on November 10 and results declared the same day.

The by-poll to Pungro-Kiphire was to fill the vacancy after the demise of sitting MLA of NPF, T Torechu. By-election to the 14 Southern Angami-I constituency was ordered after the demise of sitting NDPP legislator and Speaker NLA Vikho-o Yhoshü.
