Districts across Nagaland observe ‘World Tuberculosis Day’

Various medical departments in Nagaland observed “world TB day” under the theme, “the clock is ticking”, on March 24 to raise public awareness about the health, social and economic consequences of Tuberculosis (TB), and to step up efforts to end the epidemic. 

Kohima: National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) state TB Cell, Nagaland observed “world TB day” at Kohima district jail. The programme was chaired by state TB Officer (NTEP) Dr. Robin Lotha

In a press release, NTEP stated that assistant programme officer Dr. Apichetla Amer spoke about the signs & symptoms of TB and facilities available under the programme.

According to Amer, there were 52 designated microscopy centres and 10 CBNAAT machines for the purpose of diagnosing Tuberculosis.

She also shared that people with low immunity such as HIV and diabetes were prone to Tuberculosis and stressed on the importance of uninterrupted completion of treatment.

While sharing about the theme, WHO-NTEP medical consultant, Dr. Collins Z Sono encouraged the gathering to take personal responsibility in spreading the message about this disease which would eventually contribute in eliminating it.

Dimapur: NTEP, Dimapur organised “world tuberculosis day” at Chavara Home, Naharbari.

Speaking at the programme, district TB officer Dimapur, Dr. Benchilo Ngullie stated that there was not much time and that people must act on the commitment to achieve this goal.

She informed that Dimapur had reported the highest number of TB cases in the state and in 2020, the number of TB patients under treatment was 1491.

She further stated that TB was curable and the day was an opportunity to raise awareness about TB, its status, prevention and control.

IMA president Dimapur, Dr. D.R. Sharma and CMO Dimapur, Dr. Mereninla Senlem also exhorted the participants.

Mokokchung: NTEP Mokokchung observed the day at IDSP conference hall, chief medical officer (CMO) office, Mokokchung. The programme was chaired by Mokokchung deputy CMO, Dr. Kibangkumba.

In a press release, District Programme Management Unit (DPMU) NRHM, Mokokchung stated that senior medical officer, chest disease & TB Hospital, Mokokchung, Dr. Toshila spoke on the theme while SDO (Civil) Dharam Raj encouraged the gathering to be advocates of the elimination while Akumnaro and Talijungla shared their testimonies on being cured of TB.

Phek: NTEP Phek observed “world TB day” at clock tower, Phek Town with deputy commissioner (DC), Phek Razouvolie Dozo as the special guest.

In a press release, Phek district media officer, Kutolu Nakro stated that CMO Phek, Dr. Vibeituonuo Mepfuo in her keynote address highlighted the different services available for TB treatment in the district. The people were informed that all the treatment, investigation, diagnosis for TB was free of cost and TB patients were given an incentive under Nickshay Poshan Yojana for the entire duration of their treatment.

DC Phek, Razouvolie Dozo encouraged the people to spread awareness on TB and acknowledged NTEP staff for good implementation of the programme in the district.

TB champion brand ambassador of Phek, Vepahu Khamo shared his testimony as a cured TB patient. The programme was attended by Vesupra Kezo Superintendent of Police, Phek, NGO’s, allied deptts., staff of DH Phek, and CMO.

Longleng: District health society Longleng observed “world TB day” at Pongo village community hall. 

A press release from the office of CMO Longleng stated that while delivering the keynote address, DTO (NTEP) Dr. Temsusashi spoke on the government’s policy in implementing a national strategic plan to end TB by 2025 and challenged the gathering to make Longleng “TB free.”  

Mon: Mon celebrated “world TB day” at Leangha village under Mon block. 

In a press release, NHM Mon, media officer Leeyan Chemshy stated that during his keynote address, DTO Mon, Dr Tinenlo James Katwa informed the public about the symptoms of the disease and the institutions where to get treated under the district.

DIO (UIP&RCH), Dr. Shasinle Tep, and WHO, Dr. Mero conducted a session to sensitse the crowd on COVID-19 vaccination as the coverage under the district is quite low. 

A mini health camp was also conducted by Dr. Tinenlo James Katwa, Dr. Shasinle Tep, Dr. Mero WHO, and Dr. Penjei MO Shangnyu along with four nurses.
