One day training on production technology on jute (marapat) cultivation for farmers and educated unemployed youths under NFSM-commercial crop (jute) was conducted by the department of agriculture, Nuiland on April 10 at Sub-divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) office Niuland.

A press release by the department stated that during the training, SDAO Nuiland, L. Kivika Chophi highlighted the importance and scope of jute cultivation. He said jute has a “bright prospect” in the market as it was not only cheapest and strongest of all-natural fibre but also biodegradable and “environment friendly”.

Pointing out that Niuland sub-division has the right climatic condition and soil requirement for jute cultivation, he urged upon the farmers to increase the area under jute cultivation during this current kharif season.

Chophi also encouraged the unemployed youth to take up jute cultivation as the minimum support price of jute being Rs 4,225 per quintal (during2020-21) was likely to be hiked during 2021-22. He added that the produce was marketable.

During the technical session, Imkongyanger explained in detail the improved packages and practices on jute cultivation starting from land preparation till harvesting.
