With very severe cyclonic storm ‘Yaas’ crossing Odisha coast near Balasore, the weather condition over the entire North Eastern region is expected to deteriorate particularly in Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal, Meghalaya and Nagaland, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has informed.

In a press note, OSD NSDMA, Johnny Ruangmei, stated that the onset of Southwest monsoon over the mainland India was expected to occur around May 30. Both these weather conditions called for sensitive weather condition for the entire state, it added.

NSDMA said that light to moderate rain/thundershowers was very likely to occur at few places which would get intense and could cause disruption in communication and connectivity.

“This phenomenon in the weather activity is expected to take place from May 26 to June 5 mostly during evening and night hours. During the next 48 hours and the second half of the forecast period, NSDMA said the state was expected to experience harsh weather conditions with Kohima being more vulnerable for strong weather activity.
