
After taking the music scene in Nagaland by storm with their debut single “Gimme Gimme”, About Us finally released their debut album on Saturday.
The critically acclaimed debut single which was released on YouTube in the month of May this year has generated 3.39 lakh views so far and, in that duration, the band has created a wide fan base both nationally and internationally.
About Us is a six-member band with Sochan Kikon as the vocalist, Renlamo Ezung and Pon Kikon on guitars, Soren Kikon on bass, Renbomo Yanthan on the keyboards and Lichithung Kithan on the drums and K Edward Ngullie as band manager.
Speaking as special guest at the launching event here in Kohima, deputy chief minister and minister for home, roads & bridges, Y Patton congratulated the band for successfully compiling an album.
He said music was a gift from God and Nagas were richly talented in this area. In this regard, he said if the youth understood the potential of music industry and pursue it with dedication, there was ample avenues for income generation, Patton said. He pointed out that government of the day under the leadership of chief minister, Neiphiu Rio was taking cognizance of the importance of music and was promoting it through Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA).
Patton observed that it was a good day for the band as well as the state as three new districts were declared.
Earlier TAFMA advisor, Theja Meru in a brief remark admitted that he was also a huge fan of the band after coming across their song Gimme Gimme.
He said the band was striking all the right chords not just through their songs but even in their approach to their music. Meru said the band’s social media presence was also remarkable and that it was important to understand the power of social media especially in this new normal where everything switched to online platforms.
He lauded the band for their branding skills and encouraged them to continue in the same path to achieve greater success. He pointed out that Naga musicians were also progressing significantly and that in 90% of artistes in the recently concluded Hornbill Festival were from the state.
Band manager, K Edward Ngullie while delivering the welcome address shared the journey of the band and said the members were very dedicated in their approach to music which was the key behind the successful completion of the album. He thanked everyone for their encouragement and urged the people to continue supporting the band.
The launching was chaired by Yanpvuo Kikon while City Church Kohima, assistant pastor, Zachamo Odyuo invoked God’s blessings. During the event the third music video from the band titled “Right Now” was released by the special guest.
The self-titled album consists of nine songs including the two previously released singles Gimme Gimme, Loaded Love and the latest music video Right Now. Interested fans could contact the band through their Facebook page and other social media platforms.
The album was recorded and mixed by renowned recording engineer Moyuchen Yanthan from Infinite Records.
